We cancel out all the things you’ve paid for with all the times other people have paid for things on your behalf, and times you’ve been paid back. The remainder is your house balance and we’ll show you the fewest, simplest number of payments that you could make to be all squared with the house.

There are a few reasons why this may have happened:

  • Your app hasn’t loaded the latest version of the data – you can pull down to refresh on the Spending screen to make sure you have the most recent transactions loaded.
  • You added the cost when your phone was offline – make sure your phone is online and is connected and you can try refreshing the data again as above.
  • If you’ve just opened that house in the app and there are a lot of historical transactions to load, it will take a few seconds to fetch and load all of the data in the Spending screen.
  • Someone else in the house has deleted the transaction – you should have received a notification if that happened, or you can go into the “History” section by tapping the clock icon in the corner of the Spending screen to see all house events (including people editing or deleting costs).

If you still think there are missing transactions or other data, please get in touch with our customer support.

If you want to remove someone (including yourself) from a house, you can do it by accessing the “Settings > Remove someone” option in the app.

Before that person can be removed, you have to make sure of the following:

  • there must not be any upcoming costs or bills in the house that the person has a share of – otherwise when the cost is due they will no longer be in the house to see it! You can edit or delete those upcoming cost to make sure that person is removed.
  • the person must have a house balance of zero – you can’t remove them from the house if they still owe money or are owed money, otherwise everyone else’s balances won’t make sense. Before removing them, make sure everything is settled up and recorded (or paid for) in the app so their balance is zero.

How We Store and Sync Data

Your acasa app saves a copy of all your home’s cost and payment data so you can view it (and even record new costs and payments) even when you’re offline. When you come back online, your app will sync this data with acasa’s systems where it’s securely stored. We are then able to sync the same data with your housemates’ app as well as making it available on your web dashboard.

Occasionally, an app’s data could become out of sync, and this can cause confusing errors or out-of-date information to show up. When investigating any discrepancy, remember that the web dashboard reflects the exact data we have saved on acasa’s systems.

Clearing App Data

In order to clear out any data stored in the app on your phone, please follow these steps. This is even more effective than simply uninstalling and re-installing the acasa app (which can leave some data behind).

Android

  • Make sure the acasa app is up-to-date by checking the Play Store for updates.
  • Go to your phone’s “Settings” and find the “Applications” or “Apps” section.
  • Find “acasa” from the list of installed apps and tap it.
  • You should see a section (or link) called “Storage” or “Data”.
  • In that section there’s a “Clear Data” and/or “Clear Cache” button. Please tap both of these.
  • Open the acasa app again and log in as normal.

iOS

  • Make sure the acasa app is up-to-date by checking the App Store for updates.
  • Force close the acasa app if it’s open (double press the home button and swipe up on the acasa app)
  • Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone
  • Scroll down to find the “acasa” app and tap it.
  • Turn on the “Reset cache on next launch” switch
  • Open the acasa app again and log in as normal.

If you have any trouble, you can always contact us.

Recurring Costs

The acasa app has a feature to automatically repeat or “recur” a cost for you at the frequency specified.

For your monthly WiFi/Internet bill for example, you may wish to create a cost for the fixed amount, and set it to recur every month. This saves you (or your housemates) having to remember to add the same cost each month.

Costs can also be set to recur on a different timeframe, for instance every 3 days, every 2 weeks or every 3 months (quarterly). To create a recurring cost, use the “+” button and choose “Track a cost”, then you’ll be asked “How often” it should recur.

Recurring costs work by automatically creating an “upcoming” (future) version of the cost. These show as greyed out in the app and indicate that they don’t yet apply to your home balances. On the due date, the cost will be applied and any involved housemates’ balances will be updated accordingly, then a new instance of the cost will show up indicating the future (next) time that the cost will be applied.

Stopping a Recurring Cost

To prevent a cost from recurring, you need to delete the future version of that cost. In the acasa app, open the Spending tab and find the (greyed out) upcoming version of the cost. It will be the one with a future data shown. Tap into this cost and use the Delete or Edit icon to delete the cost.

Editing a Recurring Cost

To modify a monthly cost (for example, to change the amount if a price changes), you must modify the upcoming (future) version of the cost. In the “Spending” section of the acasa app, this will be the (greyed out) upcoming / future-dated version of the cost. You can use the edit icon to modify the cost however you wish.

If you also need to modify an existing (applied, past dated) instance of the repeating cost, you must separately edit that as normal. Doing this will NOT however modify the upcoming (and future) versions of the cost, hence that must be done separately as above.

Other Questions?

If you have any problems with this feature (or anything else), you can always jump into a quick chat with our experienced support team via the in-app chat facility, or by emailing support@heyacasa.com.
